Situated between the Northern and Southern Alps, the Ecrins massif is a vast high mountain range (150 summits over 3000m and some 10 000 hectares of glaciers).

At 1800m The Pré de Madame Carle, at the end of La Vallouise valley, is one of the points of entry into the Park. It offers an easy approach to the magnificent domain of the glaciers and high peaks: La Barre des Ecrins (4102m) is the highest point in the massif and Mont Pelvoux reaches 3932m.
