The stream zigzags beneath the larches and between the alders and rhodedendrons. The position of the valley provides a panoramic view of the buttresses of Mont Pelvoux.

Numerous chamois can be seen early in the morning.

With its start point in Ailefroide the path has some steep sections dotted along its length. Overall, though, the 2 hour climb is relatively easy.

Near to the start the hike takes you across a footbridge suspended over the stream.

Don’t forget the binoculars and the camera as the key point of this hike is that it’s very common to see and even to get close to chamois.

To increase the chance of seeing them it’s advisable to start early to avoid any crowds.

Dogs are prohibited, even on a lead.
